PROJECT COVERAGE

This project aims to support market access and quality management for small ruminant farmers in the framework of the Small Ruminant Revitalisation Programme and the beneficial integration of this agro-industry into the national and regional economy and, thereby contributing to sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in The Bahamas.

Two-fold purposes: Develop an agri-business model to modernise the small ruminants farming ensuring productivity and trade expansion; Identify appropriate quality management techniques and train farmers in standard compliance, labelling and competitiveness of farm products.

Two-fold project outputs:

  • An agri-business model building on the work done by CARDI in particular the input/output model for trade expansion is developed and the farmers are trained;
  • Provide technical assistance to small ruminant farmers on quality management and labelling to address standard compliance and traceability to be able to compete in national and international markets.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose1: To develop an agri-business model to modernise the small ruminants farming in the Bahamas and ensure sustainability of productivity and trade expansion

An agri-business model building on the work done by CARDI in particular the input/output model for trade expansion is developed and the farmers are trained;

Purpose 2: To identify appropriate product quality management techniques and train small ruminant farmers in standard compliance, labelling and competitiveness of farm products

Technical assistance to ruminant farmers on quality management and labelling to address standard compliance and traceability to be able to compete in national and international markets.
