Development of an implementation strategy for the Cameroon-EU EPA with its plan of action.

PROJECT COVERAGE

The objective of the support project was to develop the national strategy for implementing the EPA, accompanied by an action plan whose operationalization was to improve the competitiveness of the national economy, promote the integration and increasing Cameroon's participation in the world economy.

Two-fold purposes: Develop the national implementation strategy for the Cameroon-European Union EPA and its implementation plan; and strengthen the capacities of actors and beneficiaries of the EPA.

Three-fold Project outputs:

  • The national strategy for implementing the Cameroon-EU EPA is drawn up;
  • an implementing plan developed; and
  • the government of Cameroon, the private sector, civil society trained on the benefits of the EPA.

Intervention areas:

  • EPA Implementation Strategy; Prevention and settlement of disputes;
  • Trade in services;
  • Transposition of the list of products to be liberalized in SH2012 and SH2017;
  • Rules of origin

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: Develop the national strategy for implementing the EPA

  • The national strategy for implementing the EPA is developed;
  • An operational action plan for the strategy is developed.

Purpose 2: Strengthen the capacities of beneficiaries of the EPA

  • The officials of the government, the private sector, the civil society trained on the benefits of the EPA;
  • The economic and investment opportunities offered by the EPA clearly identified;
  • Specific measures to be taken by the Cameroonian government for an optimal implementation of the EPA identified;
  • Reforms necessary for the Cameroonian economy and underlying regulatory frameworks under the EPA are marked out;
  • The accompanying measures expected from the EU identified.
