PROJECT COVERAGE

This project aims at supporting Cameroon to implement the national system of trade intelligence to improve the competitiveness, regional integration and the participation of Cameroon in global trade. The trade intelligence system should inform on the Cameroon’s trade interests and orient the decisions of the Export National Strategy.

Two-fold purposes: Contribute to the development of a system or trade intelligence; Strengthen the institutional capacities of the government and private sectors for the utilisation and periodic updating of the trade intelligence platform.

Five-fold project outputs:

  • Review of the existing systems in Cameroon dealing with trade information in the public and private institutions and identification of needs;
  • Elaboration of the architecture of the system of trade intelligence;
  • Development of modules for online dissemination;
  • Establish links with national and international platforms on trade information;
  • Capacity building for the government and the private sector for the utilisation and updating of the trade intelligence platform;
  • Launching of the platform.

Intervention areas:

  • Strengthening the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Trade
  • Providing an electronic tool for the implementation of the National Export Strategy;
  • Dissemination through a single comprehensive national platform trade information disperse in different entities, thereby improving government efficiency;
  • Strengthening the capacity of business communities to identify trade opportunities and improve requirements compliance

 

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: To develop the national system of trade intelligence.

Draft a report on the existing platforms in Cameroon available in the public institutions and private sectors for disseminating trade information;

Identify needs for complementary information and periodic updating mechanisms for an efficient trade intelligence platform;

Design the architecture of the electronic platform of trade intelligence;

Develop the modules and the contents of the platform for online dissemination of the information;

Establish links with relevant trade information institutions at national and international levels.

Purpose 2: Strengthen the institutional capacities of the government and private sector for the use and update of the platform of trade intelligence

Organisation of a workshop for strengthening the capacities of the informatics staff in the public and private institutions on the technical specifics of the platform of the national system of trade intelligence for its use and updating;

Organise a session for launching the national system of trade intelligence.
