PROJECT COVERAGE

The general objective of the support project was to strengthen the capacities of Mauritania to facilitate the implementation of appropriate trade policies with ECOWAS and within the framework of the EPA. The project contributed to the sustainable economic development of Mauritania through further regional integration and better participation in the world economy.

Two-fold purposes: Support for the development of a roadmap for the revival of the National Committee on the EPAs; and facilitate the implementation of the Common External Tariff following the Association Agreement with ECOWAS and a study for the identification of sensitive products / sectors.

Two-fold Project outputs:

  • The business opportunities of the APE are understood and optimized; and
  • Mauritania has a good understanding of the CET and aligns all of its customs tariffs with the ECOWAS CET before the deadline of January 1, 2019.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: Support for the development of a roadmap for the revival of the National Committee on the EPAs

Purpose 2: Facilitate the implementation of the Common External Tariff following the Association Agreement with ECOWAS and study for the identification of sensitive products / sectors:

Mauritania has a good understanding of the CET and aligns all of its customs tariffs with the ECOWAS CET before the deadline of January 1, 2019.
