PROJECT COVERAGE

The project was in support to the integration of the PACPS – Solomon Islands – into the regional and global economies through fostering sustained compliance by the Solomon Islands’ exporters to EU market access requirements and efficiently implement Protocol II (RoO).

Three-fold purposes: To assist the Solomon Islands’ export-ready business community to take advantage of the trading opportunities under the Pacific-EU EPA; To assist the Solomon Islands’ export-ready business communities—selected exporters—build their quality management systems and certification basics to meet export / conformity requirements under the Pacific-EU EPA and To provide training for the private sector executives and government officials (customs, health, biosecurity, commerce and trade) on the Protocol II of the Rules of Origin of the Pacific-EU EPA.

Six-fold Project outputs:

  • Capacity of the export-ready private sector to define and implement business development policies and strategies to take advantage of the EPA provisions strengthened;
  • The benefits of EPA including opportunities in the EU market for Solomon Islands shared among the key stakeholders;
  • EPA and EU import requirement compliant guide(s) to meet standards and sanitary and phytosanitary requirements for exports of fish products including tuna and other selected key products developed;
  • Technical skills and capabilities of the selected export-ready companies and government support institutions on complying with SPS requirements and standards for enhanced export performance of fish products to the EU market strengthened;
  • Private sector executives and government officials (customs, health, biosecurity, commerce and trade) are equipped with knowledge on Protocol II of the EPA; and
  • Coordination of the major international trade issues among Solomon Islands’ key stakeholders enhanced.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: To assist the Solomon Islands’ export-ready business community to take advantage of the trading opportunities under the Pacific-EU EPA.
