PROJECT COVERAGE

The objective of the Regional Workshop was to assist the Caribbean SIEs in addressing their unique challenges in the pursuit of Customs modernization and reform programmes, including accession to, and implementation of key WCO instruments and tools. Specifically, the workshop’s aim was to provide a forum to Customs Administrators in the Caribbean SIEs to present their challenges and best practices and to discuss relevant tools for Trade Facilitation and capacity building in SIEs so as to populate the Guidance Document.

Project outputs:

  • SIEs addressed their unique challenges in the pursuit of Customs modernisation and reform programmes including accession to, and implementation of, key WCO instruments and tools;
  • Platform for Customs administrators in the Caribbean SIEs to present their best practices and initiatives undertaken by some of the SIEs;
  • Platform to discuss relevant tools for Trade Facilitation and potential measures to assist SIEs in integrating the global supply chain;
  • Platform for capacity building in SIEs to strengthen their capacities for effective risk management, trade facilitation, security and revenue collection; and
  • Platform for seeking input and practical experiences concerning the development of the envisaged Guidance for Customs Administrations of SIEs.

  • The Convention establishing the Customs Cooperation Council (WCO),
  • The Revised Kyoto Convention,
  • WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation,
  • WCO SAFE Framework of Standards,
  • WCO Framework on Cross-Border e-commerce,
  • Other WCO tools and instruments;
  • Trade Facilitation.

 

RESULTS ACHIEVED
