Targeted Support to Develop E-commerce in the Caribbean Countries

PROJECT COVERAGE

The project aims at development of an e-commerce trading environment in the region, contributing to competitiveness in exports, fostering investment and, therefore, to the achievement of the SDGs.

Two-fold purposes: To develop a feasibility study on the establishment of an e-commerce-based fulfilment centre to facilitate a sustainable increase in the competitiveness of the Caribbean exports; and to increase the viability of e-commerce in the Caribbean region by identifying underlying logistics and structural constraints and developing a strategy to address these challenges.

Five-fold Project outputs:

  • feasibility study on the establishment of an e-commerce-based fulfilment centre for Caribbean exports
  • assessment of the e-commerce trading environment in the Caribbean countries identifying challenges and opportunities for improvement
  • E-Commerce Strategy identifying underlying logistics and structural constraints
  • An action plan to implement the necessary reforms
  • A financial model to establish the e-commerce-based fulfilment centre

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: To develop a feasibility study on the establishment of an e-commerce-based fulfilment centre to facilitate a sustainable increase in the competitiveness of the Caribbean export.

  • Preparatory work for a feasibility study on the establishment of an e-commerce-based fulfilment centre for Caribbean exports;
  • A comprehensive feasibility study on the establishment of an e-commerce-based fulfilment centre for the exports of the Caribbean countries.

Purpose 2: To increase the viability of e-commerce in the Caribbean region by identifying underlying logistics and structural constraints and developing a strategy to address these challenges

  • A comprehensive assessment of the e-commerce trading environment in the Caribbean countries identifying challenges and opportunities for improvement.
