Enhance the business environment for exporting SMEs in Mauritius, especially in the context of the EPA implementation.

PROJECT COVERAGE

The objective of the support project was to support Mauritian SMEs and therefore contribute to the beneficial integration of the Mauritian economy into the regional and the global economies and, to sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in Mauritius.

Two-fold purposes: Strengthen the business and trade development capabilities of the Mauritian SMEs; and develop a framework for sustainability of the business and development capabilities of the Mauritian SMEs.

Four-fold Project outputs:

  • A simplified national quality strategy is developed;
  • Training of the selected 32 SMEs on export development and sustaining competitiveness undertaken;
  • A pool of local facilitators for enhancing the business development capabilities of SMEs is trained; and
  • A Framework for monitoring and improvement of the SME trade support programmes developed.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: Strengthen the business and trade development capabilities of the Mauritian SMEs
