PROJECT COVERAGE

The overall objective of the support project was to capacitate the Pacific EPA States, including those whose accession was ongoing, to efficiently implement Protocol II on rules of origin of the Pacific-EU EPA; and to effectively participate in the 7th EU Pacific Trade Committee, the 1st Special Committee on Customs Cooperation and Rules of Origin (SCCCRO).

Three-fold purposes: To provide the training for customs officials and private sector executives on the Protocol II of the Rules of Origin of the Pacific-EU EPA; To support the officials of the five Pacific EPA States, participate in the 1st meeting of the EU-Pacific Special Committee on Customs Cooperation and Rules of Origin (SCCCRO), and the 7th meeting of the EU-Pacific Trade Committee; and to support the civil society and private sector of the five Pacific EPA States participate in the targeted meetings with the EU officials on EPA Implementation.

Five-fold Project outputs:

  • Customs Officials are equipped with knowledge and information on Protocol II of the EPA;
  • The legal obligations by the Pacific States under the Protocol II of the EPA are understood and correctly interpreted;
  • Senior and technical Customs Officials of the five Pacific EPA States effectively participate in the 1st EU-Pacific Special Committee on Customs Cooperation and Rules of Origin;
  • Senior Trade Officials of the five Pacific EPA States effectively participate in the 7th meeting of the EU-Pacific Trade Committee and;
  • Representatives of the civil society active on trade matters and private sector from the five Pacific EPA States effectively participate in a targeted meeting with the EU.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: To provide the training for customs officials and private sector executives on the Protocol II of the Rules of Origin of the Pacific-EU EPA.
