PROJECT COVERAGE

The objective of the training is to provide capacity building to the ESA-5 technical experts involved in the negotiations of the deepening of the EPA, more particularly focusing on the chapters on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT).

Two-fold purposes: The technical teams of the ESA-5 EPA negotiators are capacitated on the importance of addressing Non-Trade Measures (NTMs) for export competitiveness and further integration in the global trading system; and the technical teams of the ESA-5 EPA negotiators are capacitated on the importance of addressing disciplines on SPS/TBT issues in RTAs, regional integration and developing value chains.

Four-fold Project outputs:

  1. Officers from the national authorities of the ESA 5 countries are trained in technical aspects of addressing Non-Trade Measures (NTMs) for export competitiveness and further integration in the global trading system;
  2. Officers from the national authorities of the ESA 5 countries are trained in technical aspects of TBT that are relevant to EPA negotiations;
  3. Officers from the national authorities of the ESA 5 countries are trained in technical aspects of SPS that are relevant to EPA negotiations; and
  4. Officers from the national authorities of the ESA 5 countries are aware of FTAs signed between the EU and third countries and relevant provisions for SPS and TBT therein.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

  • Officers from the national authorities of the ESA 5 countries are aware of FTAs signed between the EU and third countries and relevant provisions for SPS and TBT therein
