PROJECT COVERAGE

The objective of the project is to support the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement in the Republic of Djibouti. This will contribute to sustainable economic development in Djibouti through further regional integration and better participation in the world economy.

Three-fold purposes: Ensure ownership and concerted management of the TFA and adaptation of the regulatory framework and legislation to the requirements of the TFA; have a detailed work plan on the implementation of the TFA with its chronogram of activities as well as the budget required over a period of 5 years; and have a national information exchange platform.

Four-fold Project outputs:

  • The capacities of the staff of the Delegate Ministry responsible for trade, SMEs, Crafts, Tourism and Formalization, members of the Technical Committee on Trade Facilitation, specialized institutions as well as private sector partners on the TFA are strengthened;
  • Relevant texts in the field of trade facilitation are inventoried and harmonized with the TFA;
  • A detailed work plan is developed; and
  •  Better ownership by different stakeholders and circulation of information.

Intervention areas:

  • Trade Facilitation Agreement;
  • External trade (goods and services);
  • Training and Capacity building;
  • Non-customs policies and procedures.

 

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: Ensure ownership and concerted management of the TFA and adaptation of the regulatory framework and legislation to the requirements of the TFA

  • The capacities of the staff of the Delegate Ministry responsible for trade, SMEs, Crafts, Tourism and Formalization, members of the Technical Committee on Trade Facilitation, specialized institutions as well as private sector partners on the AFE are strengthened;
  • Relevant texts in the field of trade facilitation are inventoried and harmonized with the AFE.

Purpose 2: Have a detailed work plan on the implementation of the AFE with its chronogram of activities as well as the budget required over a period of 5 years.

Purpose 3: Have a national information exchange platform.

  • Better ownership by different stakeholders and circulation of information.
